President’s Message

Tanya Hine
National President BAWE

Dear Members,

Having started the year with setting up a Directory of Members on the BAWE website (www.bawe-uk.org), we are still waiting for Members to let us have all their details. Once the information has been collated a printed directory will also appear.

Etta Carignani is leading the European Task Force on which I have been invited to be a member. At Etta’s kind invitation the Task Force had its first meeting in Trieste at the end of February.

We acknowledged all the years Arline Woutersz has given to BAWE by hosting a concert and lunch for her on March the 8th, which was also International Women’s Day. She was presented with a long string of Pearls as a thank you on behalf of the members.

The Presidents meeting, in Morocco, at the end of April was beautifully organised by AFEM and we thank all their members for the friendship and hospitality. The results of the Presidential Election requires ratification at the Congress in Buenos Aires in October and the appointment will be announced on the website and in the Autumn Newsletter.

International Entrepreneurs Day was celebrated across the World on Friday 20th May. BAWE held a lunch in Covent Garden. Leyla Khaiat, the World President of FCEM, sent us her best wishes for the day. It is hoped that the U.N. will recognise the Third Friday in May as a World Day for Women Entrepreneurs.

I hope to see as many of you as possible for the Fellows Lunch on July 8th. For September we are planning two events, one of which will be on a “Showcase your Business” theme.

Please keep your ideas coming, as I have said before it is your Association.

Tatjana Hine
National President BAWE

Our Thanks To...

TIKAD - the Turkish Business Women’s Association who kindly invited a number of FCEM Members to speak at their symposium in Istanbul at the end of March. Belgium, France, Russia, South Africa, Greece and Tanya Hine from Great Britain were invited and made more than welcome.

TIKAD - the Turkish Business Women’s Association

The symposium was opened by the First Lady Erine Erdogan and was supported by our World President Leyla Khaiat. We all realised that we have something to learn from the dynamism of so many young Turkish businesswomen.

The Icelandic Association for inviting Avril Owton and Bola Olabisi to speak at their festivities for International Entrepreneurs Day on the 20th of May.

ZONTA International for inviting Tanya Hine to speak at their May meeting. It was found that we had a lot of common goals and some members too.

Ridi Stakis-Christie for hosting the Scottish networking dinner on the 18th of May. The Members very much enjoyed being in her newly refurbished Hotel & restaurant. A good evening was had by one and all.

Business Start up 2005 for inviting Tanya Hine to speak at their Conference for Business Start-ups at the NEC Birmingham in early June. Sir John Harvey-Jones was the opening speaker and with speakers such as Nighat Awan OBE of the Shere Khan Group, as well as Liz Jackson of Great Guns marketing, we hope that we gave people thinking of starting up their business something to think about.

Marta Lunardi, CEO of Marta’s Vinyard Ltd launched her company in the UK just over 6 weeks ago. Her wines are reputed to be the finest wines from the Mendoza region of Argentina ever launched in the UK market. Despite the extreme economic challenges in Argentina in the last couple of years, Marta has succeeded where others have failed in shipping, landing and launching a new prestigious brand of 10 wines in the UK with Europe following close behind. You can order direct from her website at www.martasvinyard.com. Marta will be inviting members to visit her wineries in Mendoza after the FCEM Congress due to take place in Buenos Aires 9th - 14th October, 2005. Well done Marta.

Una Riley, MD of Euro Security Systems Ltd is a woman in public life, who is not afraid to go with her principles. Standing as a
candidate in the election of 5th May in her constituency of St. Helen’s South, knowing that she had hardly a chance of winning, stood anyway as she believes that good
opposition makes good government.

Una is Master of the Company of Security Professionals, UK delegate in Europe on behalf of the BSIA (British Security Industry Association), writes a regular article in the Professional Security Magazine and in her spare time supports Education in the Arts.
We are proud of your achievements Una.

Congratulations to Meribeth Dayne for completing her new book “The Performers Voice” due to be published in September.
We look forward to reading it.
